NZ Alpine Club
Case Study
Aligning the association representing mountaineering and climbing in NZ
The Challenge:
The NZAC Board was undertaking a strategy refresh with a primary focus on ensuring the club's long-term financial sustainability. Key challenges included a funding model that had not kept pace with inflation and the need to identify new revenue streams. The club faced pressure from rising costs while membership fees had remained static, and there was a significant opportunity to optimize revenue from non-member and international visitor use of their extensive hut network.
Our Role:
We provided high-level strategic advice to the Board, focusing on options to grow membership and increase revenue. Our input centered on outlining potential pathways to enhance the club's financial position, which included exploring ideas for new membership tiers, offering more member services, and diversifying revenue sources.
The Result:
The Board was equipped with clear analysis and actionable recommendations to address their funding challenges. This input enabled them to build a robust, sustainable financial model as a core component of their refreshed multi-year strategy, ensuring the NZAC can continue to support the New Zealand climbing community for years to come.
